So, I suppose that the thing to do is to introduce myself and what this blog will be about.
My name is Greg Lam, and I write a lot. Mostly I write plays and screenplays, though I also have written prose stories and a sci-fi novel that needs a major round of editing. I'm fairly confident that I'm pretty good at writing. I've gotten plays into the Boston Theatre Marathon five times, and those have resulted in a couple of publications. I wrote a screenplay for the National Film Challenge that was one of the finalists for 2010.
What I'm absolutely terrible at is trying to get my work seen. Entering contests, getting representation, networking, finding and acting on opportunities... I'm absolutely rubbish at that. While I write regularly and am a member of three regular writing groups, I have a backlog of works that I have no plans for.
So that brings me to this blog. What I'm going to do with this blog is to post the things I've written, along with some commentary about what it is, where it came from, what I want to do with it, etc. That's it. I imagine that things will be pretty regular at first, given the decade long backlog of writings I can draw upon. Maybe as things evolve the blog can drive my writing process. I'd be genuinely curious as to what people think about some of these works, and the blog could act as an editor.
It could be for the vast majority of these postings, this blog will be the only venue that it will ever know. But maybe this minimal effort at self-promotion is enough to connect a work with someone who wants to do more with it. Who knows? I'm not counting on it, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't hope something like that happens. I'm going to post my writings under a Creative Commons license, so that anyone who wants to, say, perform a play that I've written can do so. Just contact me so that I know that it's happening and can advise you if there are any rights issues involved.
So, without any further ado, let's begin this experiment, shall we?
